Identification Activity

  • Bring in different assortments of trash.

  • First have the kids separate them into piles of biodegradable and non-biodegradable.

  • From those piles they will separate compostable items from non-compostable items in the biodegradable pile.

  • From the non-biodegradable pile they will identify what can be recycled and/or reused.

  • Small groups will each have a pile and tell them if they got it right or wrong. They will try to get the most accurate piles after a few tries.

  • After the interactive portion of this activity, present the dos and don’ts of evaluating trash and different uses for reusable items.
